Friend has a 99 150, ext. cab, short bed. On acceleration there is a short vibration that lasts 2-3 seconds and then goes away. Does it on hard to medium acceleration. Feels like running over a bit of gravel on a smoothe road. Goes away after a couple of seconds, and only does it from a dead stop.
Any suggestions??

It could be the dreaded torque converter shake. I've had good luck by changing the tranny fluid. If it still shakes you may need a converter. Drain the converter too when you have it serviced
U-joints look/feel ok. I would think that they my do shutter at other speeds as well or also when slowing or something. No clunking or anything. The shutter isn't instant on accelleration either. It's about 2 seconds after you put your foot on gas.
The converter is a good possibility. I'll change the fluid and see what's in it. But I'll have a closer look at the U-joints as well. Better to eliminate the possibility.
Thanks

Spark Plugs were changed about 2 weeks ago. The wires and COP's looked good. This vibration is inconsistant. It doesn't happen all of the time. It seems to occur more when starting from a dead stop on an incline.
mine has a shudder at 1mph during take off and before stop. Dealer tried everything including a new drive shaft, but no luck.
Would love to hear if you can fine yours...good luck.
We're going to change the tranny filter and fluid and see what affect it has on it. If ya'll haven't figured it out, it's caskof43's truck that I'm helping with.

We changed the Tranny fluid and the filter. Emptied the Torque Converter and blew out the lines. Filled the bad boy up with more fluid and drove it around the block. I did manage to spin the tires, which is something that I hadn't been able to do in ages. The transmission seemed to shift alot smoother and over all the truck drove better, but the vibration is still there. Now we don't think that it is the torque converter. We think that there might be something going on in the back end. Is there a possibilty of some slippage in the differential that might cause a vibration? The vibration is upon acceleration from a complete stop. It does it about three times. The first is the strongest and then weakens, but It does not remain one long consistant vibration. I wish that I could draw how it feels, but it is literally like ......... ..... ... Of course that doesn't explain much, but it is the oddest thing. What are symptoms of rear end problems?
Have them try and lube the slip yoke on the drive shaft. That point needs to slip a bit smoother.
FYI, my 2003 SCrew does the same thing. Did that when I bought it with 16k miles on it. So one wouldn't think tranny fluid has anything to do with it. My dad (retired Ford Mech) said to lube the yoke. I just haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
As ATC Crazy said, I started a thread in a different forum about the same problem. Mine's on a 2003 E-150 with only 19k miles. If one of us can get this fixed, I'll bet it'll be the same fix for us all.
Thanks projectSHO89, that is next on the things to check list. Tranny fluid needed changing anyway. Checking the rear differential for any signs of slop, wear, or binding is next. I think this is where the problem lies.
