A few of these things have hit the streets, especially in LA. I generally like "retro" and love the look of the new Mustang, but this thing looks like an H3 rearended a PT Cruiser. I know they were going for the 1949 Suburban look, but scaled way down to Cobalt platform.
I personally am not a fan of "retro" per say, and it has to be a very special car to pull it off for me to like it.
The only 2 "retro" cars I like in terms of styling is the Mustang and the GT.
T'bird, Prowler, PT Cruiser, SSR et al. I am not a fan of at all in terms of styling and more importantly, design concept. The HHR can be placed in the latter group too.
Got to see one up close tonight.. Talk about a heap. It looks like a cross between an SSR and a PT cruiser...... Not my idea of a neat vehicle. It's supposed to look like a late thirties suburban.. Sorry, but it doesn't GM needs to get off the crack.
Oh man, the HHR looks so bad up close, I got to see one upclose right next to me in the street, man GM seems to be all out of whack with these new design products. Just plain ol' ugly...like a bad kind of ugly. Like an ugly overweight woman might look ok after a few shots and drinks at a bar, but it would take a lot more than that to make the HHR look good. Sorry if I offend anyone who likes the design, just personal opinion.
The Sandstone one is going to someone that frequents this site (sssh!).
I like it- it's cute, trendy, and affordable. That HHR in the pic has leather/heated/power everything and stickers just over $22K. Like the style or not, gentlemen, it's a home-run from where I sit. (It's patterned after a '53 'Burb, BTW).
...I know they were going for the 1949 Suburban look...
Why? I didn't know there were a whole lot of people out there looking for a "scaled-down '49 Suburban." What's next? Chrysler offering a retro version of the Neon designed to look like a scaled-down 1961 Valiant station wagon? Retro should be attractive, and there should be a market for it. Maybe if Chevy had this thing 3 years ago, but I think it's WAAAAY too late to market at this point.
Jeff- there might be a market for folks looking for a scaled down Suburban that gets 35 mpg. That particular rig is going to be a dinghy behind a RV (color's a tip-off). Saturn Auto tranny- GM's version of plug and play. (can be towed in neutral with all 4 on the ground). Personally, I'm thrilled- it's just a cleverly disguised Cobalt Wagon. If someone doesn't like the looks, we just march 'em across the barkdust and sell 'em a Focus. Ditto the folks that think a Focus is nice, but boring.
