No.
That looks freaking impressive. I am going to have to forward that on to some of my collegues who are employed by a certain company... (in case you couldn't guess its the one that makes the GTO)
Not a bad looking car, per say. Not a great lookin' car though. It will sell nonetheless.
Look at the Mustang. Some people love the way the new ones look. Others (myself included) hate it. Yet, they are flying off the lots.
The 'vette does to, even though some people hate the way it looks.
There's a market for everything for people, even those $20K extra GMCs/Chevys with Cadillac logos.
why dont GM put the biggest baddest enigne they have in (retro) line up they have? look at the SSR5.3, then 6.0!! i guess they sell more cars this way?
Two words: Gas mileage. Actually, the SSR is a dead issue- market's too thin for a two-seater anything. The T-Bird got harpooned for the same reason (It's a small market, and the Corvette owns it).

The Corvette owns the market because it stayed with the concept as did the Mustang (they both got a little off track in the 70s-Mustang more than the Corvette) in their market. The gradual evolution of the Corvette from what it was to what it is today means they were able to spread the costs over many years and keep it "affordable". A built from scratch car to compete with the Corvette would be so expensive nobody but the very rich would be able to afford one.
re: 350Z. It does OK, but it never really gained the name cachet the 'Vette has. It sells about 90% the volume the Corvette does, but it's a much cheaper car- price wise it really comes in closer to a Mustang GT ($30ish) than a Corvette ($50ish). The Corvette numbers would be higher were it not for availability constraints- there were folks waiting six months and more for delivery in '05.
The Corvette's closest competitor is really the Porsche Carrera, which it outsells by a margin of about 8:1. What Porsche and Corvette owners have in common is that ownership is close to a religious experience- it's a lifestyle, not just a car.
It will be interesting to see how the Nissan GTR is recieved in the US when it is released (in 2008 I think) - our local dealer is holding 61 orders...
Aparently 9 have thrown down 20k to make sure they are first.
Given that it doesn't have the reputation it does here, will be interesting to see how it will do. It should sell for Corvette money, but the owner demographic will be a little different
(the owners that use thier Corvette may be behind the wheel of a Nissan - once they realise how much quicker they can go for the same $$$ - those that like the image are less likely to succumb to it I expect).
What do you find is the usual breakdown of Corvette owners, between the ones that buy it because they want a fun fast car, and those that buy it because they like the image?
Yes, you can get some pretty lively discussions going on the advantages of Zaino and Rejex between some Corvette owners. I can't give you a breakdown of drivers vs. cruisers vs. garage queens, but it seems to be pretty evenly split.
re: GTR. I'm clueless. I've seen pics of the initial show car, and the aesthetics are....ummm.... interesting, to say the least. What's up with that nose? And who took the saws-all to the rear? My personal take is another brilliant power-train/chassis disguised by transformer looks. That seems to be Nissans MO lately.
Actually, I think owners that don't use their 'Vette's will be all over the GTR. I affectionately call those guys the "flavor of the month" crowd. If it's kewl, expensive, and hard to get- they have to have it. 'Vette crazies will be adding blowers to preserve their self-respect.
Yeah the styling is "different" - but no GTR has been beautiful, they are just aggressive.
I actually like it (but then again I think my taste in styling is a little wierd).
And if they want to keep up with a GTR they had better do more than slap a blower on to it. http://www.exvitermini.com/pics/dcf7ln2.jpg
A guy I knows GTR, on way to an 8.273 1/4 mile... Apart from emissions and noise that car could be road registerable... (might have to remove the parachute too )
