If Toyota can sell that shoebox Scion x2, and Honda the half-painted Element, surely Chevy can sell the HHR. I think it looks just fine for what it is, and it's economical, roomy, and doesn't look like everything else on the road.
Three years ago the HHR's designer was working for Chrysler, he's the designer of the PT Cruiser (in case you've noticed any resemblance). Now all that left is for him to move to Ford and "design" a scaled down panel van on a Focus chassis.
Haven't seen on in person yet, but I'm not too fond of the PT styling. The interior looks better than most Chevies I've seen though. Looks like higher grade material, but pictures only tell so much.
I'm sure there is a market out there for them, but knowing it's a Cobalt in sheeps clothing would turn most the people I know away from it.
I personally don't think it looks too bad. But then again, I actually like the looks of the PT cruiser too. It is certainly less boring than other things they could have done.
yeah looks like gm missed the boat on this one, if they had this design out say 5 years ago before the pt or at the same time maybe it would have had a chance..its just too late and too small i mean maybe it still has a chance with the money it will save in gas but as far as the look goes ill pass, i think id check out the new fusion instead if i was forced to buy a new car right now.....take it easy
I pray Ford doesn't make anything like this. If they gotta go retro make it with real performance.
The PT and HHR are sheep in wolves clothing. They try to look aggresive and fast but they're just putt-putt, econo-duds.
Unfortunately, enough gullable people are going to believe the artificial, manufactured hype telling them they"ll look cool in these things. They'll see others pointing and think they're saying cool but they're really saying fool or maybe tool.
I actually like the HHR much better than the PT Cruiser!! I positively HATE the PT Cruiser. The convertible one looks like a coffin for a really short person!
Well that seems to have done a pretty good job. I'm not a big fan of those cars, but I'd take ANYTHING over a PT cruiser and definetly that POS carboard box element. That thing is UGLY.
The HHR and PT Cruiser is the latest attempt to sell a small and very useful station wagon. Young people would never be caught dead in the family station wagon but they love the disguised ones. GM recently redesigned their mini-vans to look more like SUVs in an attempt to capture young families that would not buy a "soccer mom" van. I think it's a good idea. I think the HHR is much better looking than the 'Burb it's trying to copy. The late 40s-early 50s (prior to 55) Chevys were not vehicles that were highly sought out. They were overshadowed by "Hot Rod" Lincolns and Fords as well as really fast Oldsmobiles and Hudsons.
