i went with my dad to get his transmission flushed they hok up 2 hoses to the cooler in the radiator adn run new fluid through the transmission about 10 times and is sopposed to me getting all the old fluid out i was just wondering if anyone has done this it looks like a good idea to do rather than changing it yourself and having old fluid left in there.
How much did your dad pay and where did he get it done at? I am going to do this soon, but don't want the 19 yr old kid at the Quickie Lube to jack up my tranny. But then again, I guess they get pretty good training on this type of stuff...
make sure they use the right fluid most of them use cheap bulk fluid. if yours needs mercon v make sure they have it someplaces try to make their own by adding some modifier to the fluid. its not the same. i would go to a dealership its about the same as jiffy lube about 120.00 or i did mine myself for 60.00.
If you don't want to do it yourself, then go to a trans shop and have them drop the pan. It is the only way to clean it out. Over time everything that wears off the clutches etc. drops into the pan. Also you will see the first time it is taken down that there is a plastic plug in there from when the vehicle was assembled. Get rid of that too. It is just rolling around in it.
I absolutely agree with "trike1946" take it to the Dealer or Tranny shop and have them pull the pan and replace the transmission filter. If you read the Help wanted ads the lube places say "No Experiance Needed" If they put even one quart of the wrong fluid in you'll have a major repair job down the road.
Thanks, you're probably right. At least if the dealer did it I would (should) be covered if anything went wrong. I am still under warranty, so I am not too worried about it, but I don't want to fight with them about it if I took it somewhere else and it got screwed up. That's what I was quoted by JiffyLube, $120 for the flush, but they don't drop the pan. Thanks again!
DON'T Go to Jiffy Lube... My wife took mine and after 45 minutes of scratching their heads.... Put the wrong fluid in... Definately go to Cottman or AAMCO type place that uses the machine to force the old fluid out (backwards) and replace with new...
If you don't want to do it yourself... that's the answer
