abs problems
This wheel hangs up, though, after I drive about 10 miles. The passenger side brake has no problems at all. I don't seem to have the electronic proportioning valve. I just have a T-connection on the rear axle that goes to each wheel cylinder. Does anyone have any ideas about what would cause that wheel to hang up when it's warm (presuming temperature is the causal factor), but work perfectly fine when it's cold?
I should reiterate that when it's acting up, my pedal gets harder and the brake/abs lights both come on. I replaced the brake booster (due to an unrelated failure) and checked the vacuum pump, which pulls 21 inches of vacuum at all times.
I'm getting flustered.
Found that valve right where you said it would be. I took it apart and it was all gunked up and had some mild corrosion inside. I cleaned it all out and took emory cloth to the corroded parts, which in all took about 30 to 45 minutes, reassembled it and took it for a good long ride. Problem solved! I tried to get the brakes to lock up, and my right rear wheel did lock up a couple of times, but that's a separate problem with the rear brake adjuster being gunked up and not working properly. The one time I found a wet spot in the road and hit the brakes hard, they locked up for a split second and then released, so I think the ABS is actually working.
My brake fluid was looking pretty bad, so I vacuumed out as much as I could and replaced it with fresh new fluid. I have to purge the whole system, though, but I just didn't feel up to it today. It's too nice out, especially after all the rain we got up here in the northeast. Thankfully, I'm on the southern end of the northeast region.
I can describe the internals of the valve if anyone else wants the information. It's really not bad to disassemble and clean it.
