Should be an easy answer

Hi everyone. I need some help and it probably is a simple solution but when you do not know you do not know. I am trying to replace the fuel filter on my 1996 F150. Am I supposed to releive the pressure before I attempt to take it off? If so How do i do that. Also it seems that the fuel filter is not held on with clips. There is a cheap plastic piece in the filter box that looks loke a pair of tweezers. Is this the tool I need to remove the filter from the line. Thank you for your help. dennis

I would definitely relieve fuel pressure before taking off the filter. You can do this by tripping the inertia switch, or by pulling the fuel pump relay, and then crank the truck until it doesn't try to fire anymore. You will have to buy (or borrow) the tool to get the filter off. The plastic clip that comes with the filter is for the older trucks. The fitting uses the plastic clips to retain the fitting on the filter instead of the internal springs like are used on your truck. You won't need the plastic clips at all for your truck.
