I have an inline fuel filter I am trying to replace. There are steel spring clips on either side of the filter. They clamp over the crimped end of the fuel line on one end, and then over the steel nipple of the fuel filter. I have removed the spring clips, but cannot seem to get the crimped on portion of the fuel lines (in and out) to come off. Do I need a special tool, or what am I missing here? Please help and advise! Thank you!!!!!
I'm pretty sure you have the same filter I do, and yes there is a special tool. Or tools. They come in a pack of I think 5 different sizes, they're fuel line disconnect something or others...
They look like plastic rings.
Well, kinda what I thought! I've pushed and pulled on the darn fuel lines so hard that I'm afraid I'm gonna break them! LOL Oh well, off to AutoZone to see if they have a fuel filter thingamajig something or other..............
Thanks

Unmolested they can be kinda tough to release, now that you've pulled on the lines hard without the tool in place you no doubt bent/curled the fingers over inside the fittings, that's going to make it tougher yet to release them but doable.
To use the tool, push the line you wish to disconnect from the filter into the filter fitting as hard as you can and hold it there, then push the tool in to hold the fingers "out", then pull the line clear of the fitting.
Again it is important you do not pull on the line until you are sure you have the tool fully inserted into the fitting, you'll know when you do, or you'll just make it worse.
