I have a rebuilt 300, with the original single barral carter carb and original manifolds. I was wondering if i wanted to get a new carburator (or used, but i mean a different one), what should i get? and i suppose i'll also need a new intake manifold also.
The offy intake and holley 390 make a big difference. You get about 500 more RPMS which equates to more horse power, and also more torque. However, when you really notice the torque is lugging the engine. Mine will go into fourth gear at 15 mph with out complaining with my 4.10 gears.
If there's even a chance of improved gas mpg, I may consider a new carb. Does anyone else have any opinions on what carb is best? At this point I'm leaning towards the 390 with the offy intake.
Do you think you might get enough gas mileage gains to offset the balance of purchasing this stuff and installing it? That certainly would add up to a bit of gas.
Well with gas prices rising by the minute, it might pay for itself after, say, a year or two. I tend to think about investments on how they will affect the future.
a 390 cfm with the offy intake improved my gas milage by 1 or two miles per gallon. However, my truck has pretty low gears, 4.10 so if yours are higher (numerically lower) you have a better chance for improved fuel economy.
