I think at this point i've decided that i want to get the Holley 390, an offy intake, and efi exaust manifold. I dont konw if i need to get electric choke or manual though. Any clues?
Where is the best place to get the offy intake and Holley 390?
www.summit.com is also a good place to get parts, they dont charge for ground shipping and have great cust. serves, and you dont have to bye there catalog to oder from them, unlike paw. As for the intake however, they are backordered. Every place that i have checked out is backordered for the offy intake till the middle of october. Turns out that the manufacturer is running behind on the production, they cant make them fast enough to keep up with the demand.
I was told that this is the intake that you would want to use for a truck,
OFY-6019DP Offenhauser Dual Port Intake Manifolds
Intake Manifold, Dual Port, Aluminum, Natural, Square Bore, Ford, 240/ 300, L6, Each
I have an '85 300 bronco that i am swapping in a four barrel on, and i got the edelbrock 1403 500cfm 4bbl. but like i said, still waiting on the intake.
ya tell me about it, i ordered mine two weeks ago, and they keep pushing back the ship date, started at the 8th of october, now its at the 27th. thats from summit, the other two places i checked are in the same boat though, one of which is www.offyparts.com
I would also like to know why oldhalftons thinks the holley 390 is the worst for the 300. It better not be because I just bought one
I ordered my carb from summit last week and it got here in 2 days and I even got a free hat and a bag of goodies. (I have had good luck with them, That's where my dual exhaust came from) on Summit's website it said that the offy manifold was back ordered until october 23. So I bought the offy manifold from the jegs catalog and it turns it's backordered to who knows when. Offenhauser either needs to make more manifolds or guys like us need to stop ordering them all at the same time! I was also unsure or the carb/intake combo but my instinct told me to go with the 390/ offy intake.

What's the difference between the dual port and the C series (which costs a bit more)?
I'm mot really sure, but i got tired of waiting and watching the ship date get moved back every week, so i got one of the C-series and just did my swap this weekend. I am happy with it so far, but i still have to do my durospark ignition swap tp get rid of all the EGR crap, then i will be able to get the real feel from the swap
My econoline has the control module mounted on the driver's side fender .. does that mean it's duraspark II?
If it is .. the timing is fixed right? How does the vacuum advance actually work in that case?
Also I think the major difference between the two intakes is that the dual port has separate tubes for the secondary barrels. Maybe the C-series doesn't.
i think the vacuum advance helps with power at a higher RPM, like on the freeway, but not real sure, i will ask around and see post what i come up with. but i do know that it works off the vacuum from the carb, same as the brakes and the power steering, at least on my '85 bronco anyway.
Quantify that statement. Even Offy suggests the 390cfm for use with their manifold on the 300cid...
Yes, I'd also like to hear why the BEST carb for the 300 ( which I've been running for 2 years, with great success & satisfaction) is also "the worst"...
Ha! get this , I called JEGS yesterday because I wanted to know how long my manifold was going to be backordered, because it doesn't say on the website like Summit. Thinking it would only be a couple more days, I just about creamed my pants when they said I would get it in December (hey that'll be a hell of a Christmas Present) I don't want to be installing a manifold when it's 19 degrees outside, so if Summit gets theirs when they say they will I will just cancel my JEGS order and get one from Summit.
the reason that every one is back ordered is because offy is behind. I got tired of waiting for the Dual Port Intake, so i went and ordered the C-series instead, it cost $6 more but worth it cuz i already have it and did the swap. i love the thing, it has done its job to produce more power. thats another rout that you could take also.
What's the difference between the dual port and the C series (which costs a bit more)?
I called Offenhauser a while back and they said the DP series was more for trucks (pulling trailers and stuff) They said the C series was more for racing since it has an open plenum. so if you just really want all out performance I would go for the c series, but since my ride is a work truck I think I'm going to wait for my DP.
