hydrovacs
I have a 1954 f100 with a 292 and 4 speed. i resently acquired a hydrovac(midland Hy -Power ) from a 1956 ford f600. I grabed the filter, air lines, brakets and distribution block. does any one have any information on these? it does not appear to be in to bad a shape but i knwo it has set. Are kits avalable to rebuild? ( i have an shop manual) How well do these work? i know i can get a rebuild unit would that be my best option? finally does anyone have one instualed on a f100? ( i belive they were an option) any and all information is great. thanks to all
We have a great group of guys and gals who are around most of the time to answer questions and give you a hard time - all in good fun of course.
I'm not an expert in the area of your question, so I'll leave the answers to others who know what they are talking about (or at least they claim they do). They should be by soon to give you some feedback.
I had to replace mine on my F-600 and I did a lot of looking. I found several online places that would rebuild my Hydrovac for anywhere from $160-$250 (+ shipping).
I ended up going to Cascade Friction Materials in Tacoma Wa and they had a rebuilt on the shelf for $125 (exchange).
They told me that they could not get a rebuild kit for it. They were able to get all the wheel cyls though... I'm not sure kits are available for the boosters anymore.... Most of the places don't want to mess with rebuilding so they just farm it out to a major rebuilder and sell you a rebuilt unit. It was worth the $125 to just get another one!
Regards,
Rick

I used it because I did not have the space to do a MII type booster and m/c in the original positon. The rear torsion bar mount sits too close.
It gives good brakes but the pedal seems to go a lot lower (>1/2 to the floor) than feels right. I guess I must feel the lag time between the m/c sending the signal and the hydroboost doing its thing.
It is just kind of strange.
