I just installed a set of hooker headers on my 79 f-250. In the process of cutting through the old exhaust, the transmission cooling line met the business end of my sawzall. It didn't cut in very far but far enough to make some problems for me Now when i start the truck there is a flood of transmission fluid that comes spewing out of the line. Any ideas on how to fix it without replacing the entire line?
Measure the size of the line ( outside diameter) go to the hardware or parts store & tell them what you did. Ask for a compression fitting the size you measured. Go home cut trans line completely into ( a tubing cutter would work best -- no filings to end up in your transmission) slide nut onto line slide ferrel onto line & tighten down repeat with other end of fitting & line. Problem solved.
you could go all out and replace the line with a stainless steel replacement line... will never rot on you that way ... But could still meet the same fate as your old line did... damn sawsall.... lol...
so basically I should cut it the rest of the way and add some kind of tubing in where the cut is. I'll see if I can do it without creating any more problems for myself. Thanks for the help.
