I want to hardwire my radar detector into my 05 f250 so that the detector will turn on and off with the truck. what is the easiest way to do it? I have already tried copper connectors into the fuse box (which worked in my previous trucks) but the slots where the fuses are located are too small for the fuse to fit back in as well. Thanks for any help.
Go to a high end stereo shop or a place that does a LOT of snowplow installs. There are tiny blade taps(the little brass thing that goes on the fuse) that will work with our trucks but they are hard to find. Both the plow shop and the place that did my alarm had them, but I've never seen them in an auto parts store or a radio shack.
Just tie it into a fuse that goes off with the truck. Bunch to choose from. Ground it and you are set. Thats what I always do and am actually doing that today on my new truck if it cools off enough this eve. Acually you know I might just use one of those useless upfitter switches but I want mine on all the time so I might not. Anyway your mileage will vary but thats my $.02.
I just did that to my 05 F250. I used the number 3 switch for the rador detector and the number 4 switch for the high idle. Leave the number 3 switch on all the time and every time the ignition switch is on the radar detector will come on and when switched off it will turn off.
do not use those fuse adapter blades. they widen up the slot and ruin the fuse box. the best way is to a ignition on wire at the fuse box or as said use a upfitter switch
They make a thing called "add a fuse" it worked good for me.You can get it at any atuo parts store. It fits in the fuse panel and it gives u an extra circut.
Blue eyes, What is the name of the auto store you have pick those up at. Around here everytime I go into a place and ask for them they look at me like I drive a Dodge!

autozone will have them, thats where i get mine from.
I just bought a Valentine One which comes with a hardwire kit. They include a connector that cuts into an existing wire (it is not as bad as it sounds). You choose which one and you are all set. That is the problem. I don't know which one. I would rather not tap into the fuse box but if I have to, well, then I will. Otherwise, if anyone knows which of the 10,000 wires under the dash of my truck to tap into, I would appreciate it.
I have a 2003 F350 6.0L with the Torque Shift auto and ESOF. I do have a trailer brake module that I though about taping into but decided against for a yet to be determined solid reason.
In all that mess under the dash you should have a white with blue tracer wire located below the radio area. You need to look up from underneath. It shold have a black shrink cap on it. This particualr wire is protected by a 10A fuse in the main panel. It is an auxhillary ignition on circuit provided by Ford. It is only activated when the key is turned to full on.
