My 2005 EB makes a whining noise while driving - Only when a/c is on. Blows cold, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when or how often it is heard. The noise is best described as a short 1 second whale call. It can be heard over the radio, and normal conversation. The dealership found that it was low on refrigerant, but found no leaks. The system was purged and refilled, and the noise has returned. They now have relpaced the expansion valve, but they still hear the noise. Thoughts?

I have the same problem they have purged and refilled the Rear AC. Cannot make it happen all the time the puzzling thing is it happens whether the AC is on or not if the truck is rolling or stopped at a light. It sounds like when you hold a balloon and let the air out squeaking. Very frustrating and annoying.
For what it is worth, I have had mine back for six days....no noise yet. Fixed? Maybe. The Service tech that replaced the both expansion valves is 95% sure the rear a/c was the culprit, and the problem is fixed. He did say there were other reports of this incident, but the Ford Engineers have yet to determine the exact cause. The Tech also said they were not as confident as he is with the prognosis.
I was glad to see your post EB. I have an 05 Limited and this noise has been driving me crazy for 3 months. The sound has been so random that I was sure it wouldn't happen for the dealer techs. I'm taking it in next week and It'll be good to have your info in hand. Thanks!
Almost a month since repair, and still no noise. Fixed? Hopefully. It appears it was the expansion valve in the rear a/c, even though they found nothing wrong with the one they replaced.......If or when you hear the noise, just know you are not alone, and probably not crazy, well at least on this issue.
Does anyone here have a noise at startup that sounds like a grunt. It happens when the truck sits for a long period of time. It suppose to be the a/c compressor from what people tell me on this forum.
