The Florida panhandle (where I live now) or southern Alabama. Lots of access to lakes and rivers, as well as the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricanes be dammed!

ATC Crazy - agreed. So your suggestions would be. . .?
Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but I'm under the impression that Virginia is slippin' the other way. [We visitied Virginia years ago scoping out a new residence, absolutely beautiful! But I'm a bit concerned about the above. . .]

I would prefer *State of Mind* after that........ Utah.

I love it there

I'll be seeing Washington,Idaho as an adult coming up in 3 weeks.

Montana is Okay though.

It's much Like Alberta except Montana has Dick (the chapter leader)

Actually, rural virginia is all of the above that I mentioned. Thats why I listed what I did....so I could live somewhere like where I live now.

Within 45 minutes drive from where I live, there are countless 4x4 trails, 2-3 ATV trail systems, countless shooting ranges, and plenty of good hunting. Not to mention, Virginia offers open pistol carry. This means you can carry your pistol on your body, or in your car, while loaded, as long as it is not concealed or hidden. For that you will need a CCW permit. Heh...even technical schools around here allow students to carry knives...mine did (required for classwork)

Dont forget about the Southern hospitality.

If you preffer small towns or larger...its all here. Roanoke is a large town (~100K people), with a small town attitude.

Thanks for the reply - as I said, we both considered the state beautiful. We'd prefer rural - horse country. I avoid cities at all costs. The Shanadoah (sp? - sorry) seemed like a slice of heaven to us, maybe another trip (its been > 10 years) is in order. . .
[And I assume a 'Yankee' with a southern attitude is welcome ; ) ]

East Coast is terrible......midwest is terrible too.

I was born in Missouri-lived there 16 years, lived in Colorado for a long time too. I have traveled all over the states. Except for Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. I do not think I am missing much from those though.
Thank you- we appreciate those thoughts, and wish more Californians would feel the same way you do. as I remember our last house sold in a bidding war between two Californians. I think they felt right at home.

We actually just moved to a state that I've always wanted to live in: Texas. But there's a couple things here that are wearing thin on my patience. Ultimately, I'd like to live in New Mexico for the scenery, but Texas for the tax rates.

As a matter of fact, I was born and raised in Nor Cal, lived in the Bay area. The climate was about as perfect as it gets, but that's really about the only thing I miss from that state. Our house was also sold in a bidding war. Crazy prices. We bought our house here in TX (2800 sq. ft, 3 bed 2 bath, 8 acres of mostly forested land with storage shed and workshop) with CASH with what we made off of our 1500 square foot, 3 bed, 2 bath home sittin on a postage stamp lot. California is too insane for me, even without the politics there.

Hawaii without a doubt. Tee shirt, flip-flops and shorts and you are dressed for any anything. Temps 65-85 and it rains almost everyday to keep things green. 12 hour days year round. Oh did I mention scantly clad women.

Montana sucks. Tell your friends!!!! There is nothing here at all. The wages are low, the taxes are high. There are no jobs, there is no water. It's a desert out here. You have to drive 60+ miles to get anywhere no matter where you are. It's awful.

Now be a good buddy and tell all your friends that there's nothing here for them!!!!
