Thanks Greywolf! Anyway, my cherry 1988 F-150 XLT Lariat had an R-12 system in it when I bought it 5 years ago. I converted it to Autofrost (R-406A) in 2001. This refrigerant is compatible with the mineral based oil used in R-12 systems so there is no need to change the oil. It is also compatible with the seals in the R-12 syste. It has approximately the same pressures as R-12 on the pressure temperature relationship chart. I did note that the air temperature off the dash diffusers is a few degrees colder than R-12 is. I only recommend using it in a system that has no leaks as it is an aztrophic refrigerant (a mixture of refrigerants) and when a system leaks, the refrigerant in the mixture that has the lightest vapor weight will leak out first leaving an unbalanced mixture. I have had it in my truck for over four years and have never had to add anything to the system yet. I get it from www.autofrost.com, I have used it to convert commercial coolers, ice machines & sandwich coolers that previously used R-12 with 100% good results.
