We've had a few rush jobs that put the engine off for a little bit. We had to deal with a camshaft situation and a bad set of rod bearings. It was looking like we would have a short block together this week, but we will have to see.
As soon as it gets rolling again, we will post pictures and details.
I was shipped twice a camshaft for a 351W, identical except the #1 journal is .040" to small. The first cam was also a small base circle and the Hyd. roller lifters did not come out far enough to make contact with the "Dog bones"
The 3rd cam was the charm.
Aty the Rally, I had a block there and the original camshaft. Eric and I were playing around with it, Eric was down looking at the oiling route in the front of the block and saw "day light" around the cam journal, enought that he could put a business card between the cam and the bearing. Sure enough when we mic'd it, .040" to small.
I wonder if comp cam is going to fix their cam lineup now?
As far as that oil passage up front on the #1 main I will be plugging that large passage on my engine. There is more than enough oil for the #1 main coming from the camshaft drilling. That may even be the clue to the low oil pressure "problem" on the Cleveland family. As the #1 main wears there would be HUGE amounts of oil leaking from the bearing area.
I don't think it was a matter of needing to fix the line up, my rep says he has been selling so many of the refit rollers for the SBF that he accidently entered the incorrect number. SBF are 31-xxx-x or 35-xxx-x depending on the firing order, "335" series is 32-xxx-x.
