straight six
X's 2. Plus the C4 saps less power. and can be made bulletproof if needed.
I run a manual valve body TCI C4 transmission that is rated for over 600 HP in a 91 Mustang that with my present horsepower numbers is pretty much bulletproof, as in hasn't broke yet.
These will also leave 4th usable when a little extra power is needed at highway speed. The 4.56 and 4.88 will make 4th almost out of the question above about 60 MPH.
RW:
@ post #46 ZF is a 5 speed... (& yes, I'm around 3400lbs w/o rocks etc in the bed)

Yeah, ZF has 4th direct, and 5th OD.

RW,
Oh, OK, so you WERE referring to it. I guess that would mean @ those 2 rear gear ratios both 4 & 5 R 'useless'.
Thanks, I'll "re look" at the posts.

Hey Bill- why dont you like the 4.10's? To many RPM's on the highway?
I have ZF 3.55 and 33's and im going to go to 4.10's sometime this summer. I have no power in OD on the highway which makes it almost useless. And after having the Mazda which had a 5% lesser OD then the ZF i really feel the need for lower gearing.

The 300 does best with 3.55 and 3.73. Save the 4.10's and up for 35 inch tires!
I have a 4 speed automatic. 4th gear is my OD. At 60 mph my 300 is turning 2,200 rpm.
The upside to gearing that low is, I can cruise the backroads in OD too. haha!
Hi Bill, good 2 C U again.
Some good info (4 me). Thanks!
@ what revs do U say IS the power band (15 - 2200?).
**I can cruise the backroads in OD**
I wonder if that is just the nature of our I6? U can 'lug' a 6 w/o probs.
BTW: '78 - 81, living in WestByGod, all I saw was back roads (cept for the 'toll rd' or they'd call it 'the turnpike' - it's been awhile)!

I completly agree that the 300 Inline 6 is a wonderful engine. I currently have one in my 2WD LWB 1965 Ford F100. Right now I am trying to find ways to get more horsepower. I recently installed a K&N ait filter and changed the spark plugs. Doing this made a huge difference in performance. If anyone has anymore suggestions on how to get more horsepower out of the 300 Inline 6 please let me know.
Thanks,
Brion
