loved my Chevy 250 ci six....was REAL impressed with a Chevy 292 six....loved my AMC 258 six.....was not overly impressed with a slant six i drove! dont have enuff info on my 300, yet (it is a work in progress). when i got it, only half the cylinders were working.....and it still pushed a F150 uphill

Heh, sounds a little like my 300, with the bad engine mount, and firing on who knows how few cylinders, with the pipe between the cat and the muffler gone, it rocks and shakes and sounds like a 90 year old lawn mower, but it still moves that beast of a truck around.... When it starts that is.

They come through the block and actually rip the starter off the transmission.

That happened to me on a 170 (smaller slant 6) but it had 300,000 mi on it!

Nothing like a wake up of a five year old thread.

Yeah,"alaska" came in where it switches pages...hope he gets his answer. Shows U what's still important to us!

Silly! Silly!! You are right.

What is a bit odd about all the braggado of our beloved 300's, there isn't hardly a page on this Forum that doesn't have a thread that begins..."How do I get more power...?". This engine is very versatile for a number of applications but not all applications. It is "best" when it adequately accomplishes it's intended use. Beyond that, no. It's not the best.

Go to any of the pages, and you will see all of them have people wanting more power, it's not just the 300.

I've never had a complaint about the power from a 300, it's a very strong engine.

And that is a reasonable, doable goal for the 300.

Best? Hmm. Yes! No! Well maybe. It is like comparing shotguns or rifles... which is the best? Example I Turkey hunt. I use a 20" barreled 20ga Encore single shot. The turkeys I have shot never complained about how dead they were... they just fell over. Now some hunters insist it is not enough gun and state you need at least a 3.5" 12ga or a 10 ga. This is true if you have limited skills and can not get a turkey within the effective range of my 20. So is the 300 the best. In my book yes. You need to be aware of its limitations and capabilities and use it accordingly.

Let the resurrection continue
Jim

You and me too. It is best for me. The problem is terms like "best" are so highly subjective they defy definition without a reference point.
