Unhappy Serious??!!

I'm looking at RV's and was hoping to tow with my F150 supercab 4.2L V6 manual with 3.55 axle. The manual indicates a max trailer wt. of 3400 lbs and GCWR of 7800. By my calculations I'm out of luck for anything bigger than a tent trailer. Am I right? Also, what is the 6000# GVWR package?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

If you swap that crappy manuel for an auto. you will be surprised how much your tow rating will go up. I have the same issues with my 97.

Ask a few RV dealers about lightweight trailers. I recently moved an older trailer for a friend. I was designed to be towed behind a mid sized car. One axle, and 13 inch tires sure didn't impress me. But it was pretty light. I think the name was Wilderness, and they're now owned by Fleetwood (they own a LOT of names now).

But remember to be realistic and skeptical when it comes to weight. My little Jayco pop-up says in the manual that it weighs 990 lbs. We were eating tires on a trip in 2000. I finally found larger wheels and tires that worked MUCH better and would just fit the wheelwells. I also weighed the trailer. With water in the tank, the deep cycle battery we'd added, a full propane bottle, our luggage, groceries, extra water jugs, etc., we came in between 1,400 and 1,500 lbs.

There really are some light trailers, and if they'll do the job for you, they'll save you some gasoline.
