Nick, why don't you post the links to those sites you found. Sounds like you may be able to use the 61 after all. The price was right, so you can afford to put some money into it, which would be ok as long as you can use the 60 parts. Congrads

I've checked your bill of material numbers and I can't find them listed on any Ford, jeep, Gm, or Chrysler truck 1967 -1978 I even checked the Fords dana 61 listings for trucks from 1974-1980 if its a d61 it may be newer than 1980 but the bill of materials number should start with a 6 (601234-1)this is what th dana guy was talking about my book is a 1990 his may be newer and list models later than my book
(My book is the Spicer front & rear axles 1967-1978 Dana corp.)
That looks to be a good number but it dosen't show up in the 1967-80 listings that I have It may be newer than 1980 give six states a call or someone elese that is a dana spicer rep and give them the number
good luck
Well I did find out what it really is.
First off the BOM is 603714-1
It is a dana 61.
Not only is it not a 60 but I found out that they made 2 different Dana 61's.
If you find a Dana 61 with a 410 ratio (Yes they are out there) you can use parts from a 60.....
If you find a 61 with a 307 or 333?? ratio( Like the one I found), you have two options.
1. Sell it to a 2-wheeler for parts
or
2. Buy a big Boat cause you already have the anchor.....
I was going to narrow the dana and use it in a car.
I guess you figured out this is a dana 61.Dana made this change to allow the use of higher gears.Normally any truck with a gear higher than 3.55 it will be a dana 61.Hope this helps.

I hate to breath life into a depressing thread like this but what ever became of the 61?
I was recently yoked with one of these model 61 units (4.10), I was so happy when came accross this thit its 65 in WMS width and 1.65 id spindles. All I needed to do was regear and ARB it and swap to 35 spline axles and be done with it. Then I saw the '61' Thanks for the info.
