I know this information is probably in the manual but I was hoping for a quick response from someone before I search through the manual. Last night while driving my 2004 with the 5.4 it all of the sudden became unresponsive to the throttle. It almost seemed as if the engine was actually shutting off and restarting. As I pushed down harder on the throttle I finally got a very harsh downshift from the transmission. I looked at the gages and saw I had a small wrench lit up on the left hand side of the gage cluster. I pulled into a parking lot and shut it off. I waited about a minute, restarted it, and it has been O.K. since. Any thoughts appreciated.
The wrench is for the wireless throttle. Mine came on when I first got it and I turned it off and when I restarted, it was off and hasn't been on again. That has been several months and several thousand miles ago.

Osbornk, Mike did the EXACT same thing as yours. Then one day I started it up and it was running very rough, bucking and stalling. Every problem light imaginable came on the dash. Luckily I work a mile from a dealership. They reflashed the pcm and it runs fine now. I would probably take it in even though it hasn't done it in a while.
If you take it in they will pull the codes off of the PCM - they should be still be stored in memory if it happened recently. At least then you'll have an idea what exactly it was - there are probably at least a dozen - maybe more more codes for the ETC system.
