Check engine/wrench indicator lights
Two hours in to a four hour drive the "Wrench" indicator light came on. The cruise control was triggered to the off position and performance was limited with difficulty climbing hills. Fuel consumption also increased. I continued driving for another hour where I pullled over, shut the truck off. When re-started, the "Wrench" light was gone and the truck ran fine the rest of the trip.
On the way home from this four hour drive, again about two hours in to the drive the indicator light that looks like an "engine" illuminated. No noticiable change in performance of the vehicle. 10 minutes later, the "Wrench" light again illuminated with the same loss of performance and increase in fuel consumption as before.
Again after shutting the truck off and restarting, the "Wrench" light is now gone and the truck runs fine. However the "Engine" light is still illuminated.
I checked for codes when I got home and although the "Engine" light is still on, no codes are listed.
When I read the owners manual it states the "Wrench" refers to electronic throttle control however when I spoke on the phone with the Ford dealer, they said it has to do with the turbocharger.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would have to guess that whatever you are using to read codes isn't capable of reading all of the Ford extended codes. You'll need to find a way to get all the codes read to know what the problem really is.
