On a Quest

Wish me luck.

I'm on a quest. A very challenging quest.

Some make it; most do not.

No, not climbing Mt. Everest or Mt. McKinley.

No cat 5 rivers in a kayak.

No land speed record attempts.

But to get into shape and lose the lbs.

I'm starting my usual annual quest to do just that.

I starting my walking routine with a 2 mile walk every evening.

Trying to eat better. (That's the tough one).

Anyone else have a similar quest?

you have my support 200%!!! not an easy task by any means...how much do you want to lose? I have lost 37 pounds since april, looking for about 20 more to get about where I want to be. it takes patience, discipline, exercise, and a vision to see what you will look like in the future, and not get down and out about where you are now

I'm thinking I should lose around 80 lbs.

If I go according to the health insurance charts, I'd still be over weight.

Not in my book.

I think 180 should be just fine.

This is funny.. I'm also shooting for ~180... That's ~80 pounds... The problem is that I work in the food service industry...

Join a sporting team/club of some variety, doesn't matter what it is, anything from raquetball, to golf.
You are doing exercise, and it is fun.

Personally I enjoy cycling (both road and mountain), swimming and tennis, and I go for the occasional run too.

When you are looking to eat heathier, it is pretty easy.
Instead of having some crisps and a coke, try some carrot, celery sticks and some water, not only is it A LOT heathier, its much cheaper too.

Looks like Ben and I aren't the only ones. Patrick, cjben, even jake00. I also need to drop some weight. In fact I'm going to the doctor's office here in about 20 minutes to have my cholesterol, etc. checked. If I could get to 200, I'd be happy, but 180? I wouldn't be able to quit smiling.

I'll add to Big350's notes about healthy eating. Something I've found that I really like is celery with a good salsa. If the salsa is lousy, this won't work. You get the crunch that you'd normally get from chips (crisps) and you're still getting the salsa (so it needs to be a brand you really like).

TaeKwonDo is great exercise. I've been taking classes with my son for a few months now. It will certainly get you sweating. I've lost a couple of pounds, and I'd probably lose more, but I like good food too much and as one ages, it gets harder to keep it off. Best to avoid fried foods as much as possible and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. If I lose twenty pounds for my size, I'll be in real good shape.

Sounds good to me, Chaz.

Back from doctor. Down 3 pounds since last time - but didn't try really hard. BP was at a good level and they'll have cholesterol numbers for me within a week.

Let's do this thing.
