Hey guys...do it to it. I'm not quite in the same boat as you, but maybe the same marina at least. I'm like 5'10" and just a hair below 2 bucks. I go to the gym pretty often, at least 3 times a week, usually all 5 though, and spend the weekend throwing it all away with 12 oz curls. I'd like to be in better shape though, as well as a better eater, so I'd like to see this thread kept alive too.

The eating part...the best suggestion I have is moving into a college dorm. Seriously, Ramen Noodles and Hot Pockets will do wonders for your figure. Heart and blood pressure, I'm not too sure about, but dorm life is definitely condusive to losing weight.

I'm a big fan of anything fried, pizza, cheesesteaks (try not eating one in Philly), beer, chocolate, yadda yadda yadda. One thing I do now is drink a ton of water. There is a 5 gallon jug just 3 feet from me, so that's easy. I'm trying to not eat so late at night, though some nights I have late classes and have to or I don't sleep well. For lunch...I drive a lot, so sometimes I'm stuck at Wendy's. However, they have a salad, baked potato, and chicken sandwiches. There are Saladworks everywhere too.

I also taught myself how to cook pretty well. Chicken is a great meal for someone on a diet, and there are books out there solely devoted to cooking chicken (it can get pretty tired with just regular old chicken every night) With 15 minutes of garlic, rosemary and lemon marinade, maybe 10-15 minutes on the stove, then the rest of the time in the oven drowned in the marinade and some wine, or chicken broth (low fat/sodium), it comes out juicy and falls apart in your mouth, everytime. Great for a diet. There's also a really good show on the Food Network. Try the internet and their website and get the recipes there. We made one meal and it tasted really bad for you but was incredibly healthy...worked out perfect.

Best of luck to everyone, and share some things you know of that help.

I'm turning into a big fan of salad.. When you work around food all day, it's tough to find things with flavor. My salad has does this for me.... I'm impressed... I just need to stay away from the soda..

Ryan, if you have an ALDI close by, they sell a blue corn chip that is low carb and outstanding.

You could try the new "Don Key" diet (keep your a** out of the fridge!) Seriously, small changes over time seem to work well. Like ranch dressing? Try making it with unflavored non fat yogurt instead of mayo. Chips? Toast corn tortillas. Whole grain breads. Fresh fruits and veggies. Walk or cycle instead of drive. Park in the outskirts of the parking lot and walk to the store. Drink lots of water. Good luck.

Man, I'm in the same boat as all you guys. Need to lose about the same amount of weight. I'd like to drop about 15-20 before the deer hunt in late October. (No treestands in Utah). I've changed my eating habits to eat breakfast everyday, a lean cuisine and a light yogurt for lunch, and a healthy dinner. I've been eating right for a while but just need to get the workouts going.

Yeah, constant challenge for me. I flirt with my max military weight at all times. Semi-annual weigh ins are stressful...

Ok..... Here we go

I think it would be a great start to do at least one type of cardio type exercise a day, be it walking, jogging, jumping jacks whatever.

After you complete the exercise, you check in here.

I hope everyone first checks with their doctor and makes sure their up for it.

First order of business is we need to pool a list of those who would like to join in.

Then we need to look out for each other, checking in on each other and giving good positive feedback.

I am signing in.. Day 1 8/11/05 - 285 lbs ( Yikes)

But to get into shape and lose the lbs.

I'm starting my usual annual quest to do just that.

I starting my walking routine with a 2 mile walk every evening.

Trying to eat better. (That's the tough one).

Anyone else have a similar quest?

"Do you know what you want?... Do you know what your kitty cat want's?... Do you know what your dog want's?... Do I know what I want?... Yeah, I know what I want... I want a big fat man with meat on his bones..." Those are the lyrics to one of Judy Henske's new songs. She writes some funny stuff .

OK, Sierraben. Want to lose weight and get in shape? OK, well let's get serious.

Walking is one of the best things a person can do to get the pounds rolling off. It is also good for us mentally. Walking is wonderful! Your starting out right.

In order for a person to get the fat off and keep it off he has to put the muscle on. Muscle burn's fat for fuel.

This is what work's for me. I workout six days a week with weights. Mondays and Thursdays I work my chest, upper back and abs. Tuesdays and Fridays I work the shoulders and arms. Wednesdays and Saturdays I work my legs, lower back and abs (lightly). Sunday I take off. At 5:00AM I eat a small salad for the complex carbs I need to fuel the workout. At 6:00AM I put my music on and start. An hour after the workout I take a scoop of protein powder in water or a chicken breast to build the muscle.

I eat five smaller meals each day for two reasons. #1. By eating five small meals I don't feel starved at lunch and dinner time so I end up not gorging myself. As a result I don't take in as many calories. #2. With five smaller meals my blood sugar level and energy level stays more on an even keel all day long. It is also easier on the digestive system. I stay with a ratio of 30-40% protein, 30-40% complex carbs and 30% healthy fat. I allow myself only one junk food meal per week as a treat.

Get yourself some good books on health, exercise and diet. The best one I ever came across is "Your Body Revival" by Dave Draper. This guy cuts thru all the malarky, fad diets, steroids, magic weight loss pills, donut diets and all the other crap that fools and those who follow fall for. Weight loss begin's with a good exercise program and good dietry habits. There are no short cuts. It is not easy starting an exercise program and developing good eating habits but the results are well worth the effort. There are three basic body types and dozen's of variations so some people lose weight easier than others. Don't get discouraged. Stay with it. Don't rush it.

The secret is there is no secret.

Good for you! Most people maintain their trucks much better than they do their bodies. I never could see any logic in that. I think that the main route to getting and remaining fit is consistency, making good habits an ongoing part of your lifestyle. I have been going to the Gym to work out for many years now and I've reached the point where I feel guilty if I skip a day. I belonged to a health club for years gladly paying monthly fees until they announced that they were going out of business. Turned out that they sold their equipment to the city and now I workout on the same equipment for $25 a year. Just keep at it and don't get discouraged.

I've been trying to lose weight all summer. I dropped 18 lbs by just not drinking cokes & eating lots of salads. I work in the summer heat & don't fell like exercise after work. I'm trying to get down to 165 but I'm stuck at 172.

I lost 10 #s just by eating the reccomended amount on the package, so drink only one snapple, have only 3 oreo's with a 8oz glass of milk. I figured, I dont work out or do any heavy work, why eat heavy. seems to work.
