I just got a bunch of wrenches in the mail and they are all coated in something similar to cutting oil and some sort of vasoline/grease. What is the best way to clean all this off and not damage them? I have been told a rag soaked in WD40. This is supposed to clean them and leave a thin film on the surface to protect them. Any thoughts?
If the vaseline/grease is Cosmoline, boiling water will remove it. (Just ask anyone who was in the brown boot Army)
I've cleaned wrenches by running them through the dishwasher. Remove wife from home first. Remove the wrenches and dry them with a towel at end of rinse cycle.

Okay, Anytips on removing wife from home? Non-painful ones only!
And if you go the dishwasher route, run an extra wash cycle empty, and throw a half cup of Tang breakfast drink powder in instead of detergent. She'll never know how the dishwasher got so clean and sparkley fresh!
Gift certificate for day spa usually will remove the Wife from the house allowing you to misuse the dishwasher.
It works sooo well for cleaning so many filthy items. just remember to to get the Dishwasher be clean stuff and run it through BEFORE wife comes back. Not only will the dishwasher be sparkly clean and smell good. Wife will praise you for 'cleaning' the dishwasher. If she only knew...
