Internal slave cylinder quick-disconect coupling
Man! I just had my first run in with a quick-disconnect coupling from an internal slave cylinder on my 1991 F150 M5R2 tranny. I didn't want to damage anything, and didn't know how to remove the quick-disconnect, so I just spent (and turns out waisted) 2 hours trying to find the info in books and online. Books are great but usualy don't mention the simplest things, which are not so simple when you havent seen them before :-) I finally drove the retaining pin out of the bad tranny's slave cylinder and removed the entire disconnect assembly, cut it in two crossways and disected it! Reverse engineered it to learn how to remove my good one without damage. Turns out it is quit simple, you just push the white plastic sleeve into the couple and that releases the line. In all fairness, mine is a greasy southern system and worked fine but the bad donor assembly was from a northern rust bucket and the disconnect would not have worked if tried anyway! The aluminum was corroded fast to the disconnect.
Anyway, my question is:
Where on this site can a person find out how to do something simple but tricky if they haven't seen it before, such as the quick-disconnect, without waiting for forum responses? These forums are great, but in a situation like today, the clock was ticking and I had to scramble to get it finished.
Thanks, Mike
