Lights on

Hi, I have a 2002 F250. When it is hot outside, the door switch will stay on leaving the interior lights on. I have removed the door panel, but cannot find the door switch. Can it be adjusted, does it have to be replaced, Where is the darn thing?

Spray a bit of WD-40 on the (plunger) switch, on the door frame, this is a common problem.

where the heck is the plunger switch? I am used to the old style switch that is in the front of the frame, but can't find one in my 02 SD.

Open the door and look where the arms attach the door to the frame. In the middle of the door frame, between the hinges (arms) you will see one or two big silver nuts with a blackish rod stiching out. These are the switches (plungers). You would spray them with WD-40 and work them in and out to get their proper function restored. You'll probably have to close the door a few times as you might not be able to press them in with your hand.

Git 'er done Skeeter!

Steve...

OK, that didn't work... I opened the door and looked between the hinges on the door and there was 2 silver nuts with "rods" protruding, but these were just bolts or studs, there were threads beyond the "rods" and the "rods" do not make contact with anything. Between the silver nuts and rods, there is a link that looks like an I beam with an indentation on it, is that what accuates the switch? Is the switch inside of the door?

Nope. There's no plungers on your door jamb as in the 'old days'.

The switch that actuates your dome light is located internally, adjacent to the door latch. Your problem could be one of two things:

The switch itself is failing, or, the timing fuction in the computer module is failing.

Thanks, I thought I was blind! Is the switch integrated with the latch, or can it be adjusted/replaced seperatlt?

I believe the switch is its own separate entity (I have never torn into one). The switch also performs other duties such as "Door ajar" notifications, etc.

Good luck. Let us know what you discover.

There are two on my '03 where I said they are.
I press one of them in and the door ajar light goes off and the dinging quits.
I don't know what the other one does.
This mule isn't from the "old days".

Hmmm....Interesting. Maybe it's an '03 thang?

I'll give my buddy at Millennium Ford a call to confirm.

Steve, you had me scratching my head because I do have the 2 silver nuts with rods sticking out, but they are solid and do not move, nor is there any wires on the inside of the door that goes to that area. I do think that the latch is probablty the culpret.
I would love to know what your truck has???
I noticed that you listed Bilstein shocks on your 2003, what do you think of them?

Well Steve, you got me baffled.

I called buddy Matt at the Ford Service Dept. and according to him "Internal (seperate) switch, adjacent to latch." True for both '02 and '03.

Maybe you got one of those 'odd' mid year models? Hmmm.....Once again, interesting.
