I was wondering if the frame rails of the 87-93 F-150 trucks can survive high horsepower applications in excess of 1,000 hp. Does anyone here have any experience with the matter?
The guys, that are making big power, abuse their trucks many weekends. Occaisonally, I read about a burnt tranny, noodled driveshaft, blown turbo, blower and/or engine, but I don't think I've read anything about frame breakage. Every pass they make consists of a torque induced frame twist with the front wheels departing the ground. Their timeslips range from mid 9's to high 8's in the quater.
The suspension has been modified (ie 4 link and such), but they still utilize the stock frame rails.
I thought the F150 - F350 had the same frame. I have a 94 F150 RC and a 96 F350 RC and besides the engine cradle and front spring mounts they are identicle. Every hole for any option and the holes for the front spring & shock mounts are the same. I know guys who pull trucks like these and are running big blocks and deisels with enormus amounts of torque. The frames twist some, but they handle it well.
