I bet you broke one of the Auto hubs....

I bet you broke one of your Auto hubs. I broke one and it was still driveable but the front wheels wouldn't pull. I replaced the front Auto hubs with a set of Warn Premium hubs. I had to get that special huge socket tool for the lock nut though. I think you need the hub nut kit from Warn too for your '96.
I got my hubs and the conversion kit from AccessConnect.com for about $120.
Part number 20990 for the hubs and 32720 for the conversion kit with the replacement nut and ring.

no, the hubs are not auto locking. its manually done, however on a normal factory hub there may be a chrome metal piece, but it is accompanied with a series of screws which affixes the hub to the steel rotor with hub attached.

You have the hat style hubs. To replace them with the better setup you need to change everything from the knuckle out. Check the boneyards, they usually let the ttb stuff go pretty cheap. While you are at it change all four ball joints and the axle u-joints.

Yeah, I swapped a 82 front end into the 88 I sold to my buddy. He loves the better settup. He did some easy wheeling with your style hubs but was worried about breaking them and wanted to swap them out. I had the 82 I was parting out so I hooked him up.

He got it free due to being my designated driver all the time. Gotta apriciate that.
