Sealing up the firewall...
I really really need to seal all of the holes in the firewall, as engine heat and fumes both baste and cook me while driving. Obviously, I will need to buy the little rubber seal for the clutch rod....but I really don't care to pull the entire wiring harness to install gromets in all of their holes....So, I am thinking of using the "firestop" silicone sealant that they carry at the home depot for use in firproof assemblies in homes....I though it might best resist the temperatures...has anyone found a better way?

You can buy firewall shields of metal from someone (forget who?), couple that with insulation and chalk and you should be all set. I usually just use red RTV or GE's Silicone II to fill firewall or body voids. Just make sure whatever you use is resilent and flexible. The seals around the brake booster and steering columns sometimes need work too.
