Hey guys, I just finished lifting, painting and interior on a '86 Bronco. Now I'm looking for some custom security ideas. I have a Viper alarm/remote start system installed but with all the attention Big Red is getting, feel the need for some more subversive ideas. Plus I've heard that if someone just crawls underneith and cuts the wires, alarm systems don't work very well.
I thought of a fuel line valve/switch mounted under the driver seat, or a removable key/ battery kill switch that you see at autozone/checker type places, but could really use some input from some of you guys on ideas, costs, install tips, etc.
I like the kill switch idea and I use one of those clubs for your brake peddle but I put on the clutch peddle. A thief will only take so long to try to get your truck the more ways to make him take longer the better he will hopefully give up if he thinks its not safe for him but ,just like anything else if a thief wants it bad enough he'll get it. Try all three ,the fuel cut off , the kill switch and the club,it may take you a few min,to go anywhere but it will be a little piece off mind to know how long someone will have to look to try to steal her.
you could relocate the enertia switch to somewhere where you can get to it easier.......just push it before you leave the truck. Can't hot wire a truck thats not getting any gas.
I just use a "Club". I know it can be defeated in various ways, but at least it should deter a casual thief. Install is very easy and it doesn't cost much.
another idea would be a hidden kill switch that shuts the spark off. could hide the switch under the dash or somthen. Do you really think someone would steal that old of a vehicle though? I no around here Ill leave my keys rite in the ignition and go in the store but I also live in a very small town were evryone else does the same and evryone nos not only evryone else but thier whole family. Rich
Probably not, but there's the old addage-"keep the honest, honest". Besides, here in the Western States, joy riders, chop-shops and the like are always looking for an opportunity.
