This probably will sound really dumb, but I just put a new plug
in my oil pan when changing the oil yesterday and had no leaks at
start up. Today I drove it to work and notice it leaking a fair amount after an hour of sitting. The plug is tight, and does have a metal gasket (if there is such a thing). Should I put a rubber seal on it to stop the leak?
Again, sorry for the dumb question...I've thought of using RTV.
try a nylon gasket, or a metal ring gasket with a rubber insert. These types work pretty well. Basically its a metal ring, and they mold a rubber ring inside of it. Seals the threads as its compressed
I use nylon - they work well for me.
FYI - don't over tighten your plug - as with all gaskets, this can cause leakage as well -
Keep it Rubber Side Down!
