Dumb Question here

2011 f350

Engine block/oil heater plug under the front of the bumper

Is all you do is plug in an extention cord?

Never had a block/oil heater, is there a switch or a setting?

Sounds dumb i know but i didnt find anything in the manual

Thanks!!

Just plug it in. Only need it for about three hours before you plan to start the truck. I put mine on a heavy duty timer from home depot. Also, some folks have had issues when plugging into a gfci outlet. It would trip it. My garage doesn't have gfci so I can't verify.

I bought a 20 amp timer for mine, programmed to turn on 3-4 hours before leaving for work. I lay the cord over the drivers mirror so I don't forget to unplug before driving off.

Ditto on both fronts! Don't want to drive off with the cord!

The 6.0 heater says it's something like 1000W, probably pulls more in the 850W range. Basically the equivalent of running your TV, stereo, living room lights, and an electric blanket all night. I don't like writing checks to the power company, so I use a timer.

I had mine plugged into GFCI & it would sometimes trip, sometimes not.... So I plugged into a regular outlet and it works fine. Used the GFCI for my wife's Nissan

I tied the extension cord to fence post so a simple backing out of the drive while forgetting to unplug wouldn't do any damage.
