Just plug it in. Only need it for about three hours before you plan to start the truck. I put mine on a heavy duty timer from home depot. Also, some folks have had issues when plugging into a gfci outlet. It would trip it. My garage doesn't have gfci so I can't verify.
Is it safe to leave on all night? Dont really want to get up at 3 am for a 6am departure, id never get back to sleep
I bought a 20 amp timer for mine, programmed to turn on 3-4 hours before leaving for work. I lay the cord over the drivers mirror so I don't forget to unplug before driving off.

well its 15deg out and I went out to start the truck and the oil temp was 46, cool beans! trans temp was 19......... Im guess the trans fluid dosent need a heater?
I took all you advice and strung the ext cord on my mirror as well
