Burning up the Tires
Burning up the Tires
Alright, I gotta ask. I've seen a couple posts where people say they smoke the tires after installing a performance tune or chip. Are you literally smoking the tires and leaving black marks? I find it hard to believe that my 7200lb PSD has the potential to burn up the tires like that. If it is true, I will be ordering a performance enhancing tune tonite! I don't care if the wife says the baby needs diapers.
Oh yes it's true. I have intake/exhaust/DP tuner chip. It spins soooo bad I had to order a detroit locker to get some more traction. On the 120HP program, it hits second so hard it starts spinning again.
Pulling a trailer in the rain is really really tough with an open diff.

Mine has a Tymar intake, 5" exhaust, and Edge Evolution tuner (set at 100hp). A couple of weeks ago, I was on a freeway onramp with one of the traffic control lights on the ramp. Since traffic was actually moving fast, I tromped it on the green light. Even with limited slip, it spun both rear tires through first, into second, and I backed off. Tires are expensive, and so is diesel. It is entertaining to know it will do that.
My truck is stock injectors, fuel system, have open element intake, gutted ebpv with a banks big head actuator and exhaust housing on the stock turbo, and just rednecked the exhaust (cut everything from the just in front of the muffler back) and with the tow burn I have tweaked to just where I like it. I can lite em up at will from a dead stop, with a foot on the brake to get them spinning I can roast the **** outta them. Mine is a c/c dually, with LS 4:10's and all terrains on the back four.
you should be able to spin them stock, just build a little boost before flooring it, other wise you get some wicked turbo lag, i have a video of mine rolling to about 10mph then smoking the tires

yes i have tried in my driveway, (stock programming, kwik filter.) i can roll along at 5-10 MPH, and then press the brake, then give some gas. around 1750 they start to break loose (CC SRW) but i let off as soon as they chirped, i dont want my dad to see any black streaks on the driveway, he will freak because im a new driver, brand new tires, and im not supposed to drive like that.
but i really did that just to build boost so i could show the mexicans how it sounded when i let off the throttle. but i went with so much boost, it started chirping tires!

i will tell you honestly... my 02 with around $1000 worth of mods... one being the diablo predator... can ROAST my tires which are oversized by two sizes... when i load the 100hp/200ft lbs. tune... i can't keep the tires on the ground...! the tune is actually kind of useless because i can't use all the power.. plus the egts and my boost go up so fast i'm afraid i might bust my new gauges...!
I have less than $200 in perfromance parts in my truck and it'll smoke the tires after about 30ft if you punch it from a dead stop. It'll lay down a hundred feet of rubber. Now if you spool it and let off the brake, it may never stop spinning. You gotta love turbo performance! Not just Diesel, either.
