Egt

Being new to the diesel arena I was wondering what a "good" EGT reading would be?? I have the pillar mounted turbo and EGT meters but am not sure what a good or safe reading is.

Thanks,
Chad

Anything below 1350 degrees would be considered a good temp.

Really that high for that long? Anytime I see 1250 I get offf it right away. SO I can stay on the throttle longer at 1250?

Ya if those temps are being measured with a post-turbo probe, you would be running too hot. If thats pre-turbo your good.

When Cruising on the highway at 75mph, unloaded, My EGT's are right around 800°F. That's PRE-Turbo, and on stock programming. I haven't tried any of the tunes from my Diablo in there yet, so I'm unsure of what they are.
The highest I HAVE seen on my truck, was 1100°F at WOT for over a minute and right around 25-29lbs boost. (Source tapped at intake elbow)

More boost can lower your EGT's.

With my 10.5' slide-in camper, towing my 5k lb boat going up a long steep incline in overdrive i notice my temps hitting 1300+ degrees pre-turbo, I put a little more foot into it which dropped it out of O.D. and the boost jumped and it cooled it right down to around the 1100 degree mark.

I've seen the highest temps while working the truck in its highest gear/not much boost.
