Windsor/Romeo engines interchangable? ('98 f150)
WHAT I HAVE:
1998 F-150 / 4.6L WINDSOR ENGINE / 2WD / AUTO TRANS
I am swapping engines in the above described truck. The new engine is a ROMEO version of the engine, same specs otherwise. They look pretty much the same, but looks like the bolt pattern on the bellhousing-to-engine bolts might be different. I haven't got the beast fully extracted yet, so don't know what other incompatiblities I might find.
So, is it possible to interchange these 2 engines? Do I just have to find a bellhousing that mates the tranny to a ROMEO. What else might I run into? Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
Oh, and also the replacement ROMEO engine came with everything attached starter, compressor, electronics, air handler, hoses, heads, manifolds, etc., so none of that has to be swapped over, just have to mate it to the tranny and whatever else doesn't come out with an engine.

The only difference is that the Romeo built engines have an 8 bolt flexplate to crankshaft pattern, while the Windsor built engines have a 6 bolt pattern, like all other fords. I was under the impression that only Mustang, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis, Mark VIII, and Town Cars got the Romeo engine because they used a different type of transmission, but I highly doubt they would have a different bellhousing pattern.
