i looking to improve my whisle from my turbo.I was reading the forums and came across what some people where saying,on how to improve your turbo whisle. One thing was goto an open air box.I have an 2003 f-350 deisel with the 7.3.Has any one built a open air box for it yet,if so derections would be great,on how to make one.
The other question i have is,is it ok to have an open air box on these motors.
i have an AFE magnum force air box and it does make turbo more prounced but you will notice it more when you get a tuner and turn the tune up. the only thing is to use a tuner you should have an high flow airbox.
Just checking... I've seen people do such things. The downside to an open filter element is you're breathing superheated under-hood air, rather than at least partially breathing cooler air from the outside world.
As far as real performance, a true ram-air hood induction system would net you the most benefits.

Nope...
On his year he has the ram air passing through the battery box and it would hit the 6637. The temps are only about 18 degrees hotter that the outside ambient air. And that would be the temp going into the stock anyway.
I've measured, measured, and measured.
The 7.3 works fine, in fact better with the open air filter.
