Sometimes I will be around the house and hear a train whisle (if you want to call it a whisle). It has to be a train horn in a semi or something. I live close to highway and there are no tracks with-in 20 miles or so. And when I hear it, it is close. I would like to install a train horn in my truck. Anyone know how?
If it is a real train horn you will need big air. You can get a train horn set from ebay and elsewhere on the net although they are not the true train horns but they are plenty loud.
This is a real train horn. Hard to find a place to mount due to size but I will eventually get it on there.
ive got the siegeengineering kong2's on my truck and they sound better than the ones fw&w has on there engines. they will ring your ears in the cab with the windows rolled up. ive got 24gallons of air capacity on the truck thats enough to sound them off pretty good, i only run 100psi through mine and have my compressor cutof at 150psi.
I was watching a show on speed TV and a guy had a set in a small Nissan truck they took up most of his bed and it was super loud how much air would it take to operate NEAL the Nissan was one of those jumping trucks so I'm sure he had lots of air
Ha boy you could give a person a heart attack if you let it rip beside someone
I have a train horn as well as a 12V compressor. I have a small tank made from a 7 gallon Propane bottle but it's too tall. I was thinking about making a roll bar type frame out of 4" steel and mounting it on welded plates then bolted to the bed rails.
I would also have welded a female pipe fitting to attach my pump and horn.
I want feed back on this idea. I plan on mounting my horns on top of this 4" frame on an additional plate so it will have to be a little higher than the cab.
Now, I'm somewhat a dummy and do not know how to figuer the volumn of air that this bar would hold. It will be approx. 4" X 10' after it is bent.
(I think, I measured in the dark) Any comments welcome.

what kind of reaction do you get when you let-er rip in traffic?
There is a stop light on the the way to church and when it turns red at the right time traffic stops on the track or clse to it. Wouldnt it be great to let-er rip if you were sitting behind that person?
I just bought a tank almost identical to that at a big rig scrapyard for around $25. Blasted it and painted it like new almost. That is what I will be using. It is the same 9.5" diameter and mine is 55" long.
Ive got the anvil horn from seige engineering. I havnt installed it yet because i cant seem to find that perfect spot to mount the horn, tank and compressor. Im dieing to get it on my truck though.
When i was looking for my horn i wanted a real train horn. but didnt get one due to the huge volume of air needed to run one....and the cost. As neal stated the K5LA are a beautiful horn...but not worth it in my opinion since they cost so much K5LA horn ebay
Those are very nice and polished up. Mine are brand new and directly from CSX railroad. I guess the RR don't polish theirs. Anyway I had a buddy from CSX that let me have them for $400 What a steal
i wanted a set of k3la's but the cost was more than i wanted to spend and the kong sounds awesome, it enough to scare the crap out of anyone around, my brother almost god a ticket in my truck when he took it to go to the movies and when he got back in the truck he drove infront of the movie theater as everone was getting out and layed into it, he said it was about the funniest thing hes ever done
jake you got your horn from seige engineering right?. If so can i ask what tank and compressor you got and where did you mount them? Im trying to figure out where to install my anvil horn.
