Should there be a difference in rpm’s for a given speed when in Tow Haul mode as compared to normal mode. For example on flat ground when I’m doing 55 mph in normal mode the tach will be at 1600 rpm’s. If Tow Haul mode is on the tach will be 2200 rpm’s at 55 mph.<O
From what I have read and heard I thought the difference between the two modes was longer up shifts and engine braking on down slopes. Is the difference in rpm’s normal or do I need to take it in to be checked.<O></O>
Charlie is right, the T/H mode changes the feel of the truck and if you are in cruise control going down hill the T/H will make some real aggressive down shifts to keep your speed in check. It takes you by surprize when your not used to it.
Can the T/H mode also be used without a load or trailer as sort of like an engine brake? (example: going down a mountain winding road and using the T/H mode to help easy the burden on the brakes.)
Thanx Buzz Cut. I am planning on a trip to the mountains this winter (ski trip in West Virgina). I will definetly be using the T/H then... Thanx again.
The transmission isn't limited in what gears it can select. However, the computer does take into account that you have a load on the vehicle, so it will shift later. If you're on flat ground with pretty much any trailer, it will still shift into O/D (5th gear... TorqShift is technically a 6-speed transmission but only uses 5 gears in the upshift and downshift patterns.)
Sounds to me like when the tranny's arein T/H mode they almost become a standard in that it will hold certain gears longer. And is human enough like to know that your picking up to much speed so it drops down a gear to help keep your truck undercontrol.
