I got a 2004 FX4 and my shifter in the center console gets stuck in drive very often. When I get in and start the car the shifter doesnt want to shift out of park. I got to play w/ it a lot and then finally it will shift. Has any1 else had this problem? I have gone to the dealer 2 times on this and they cant find the problem. They always tell me some crap about pull up on the shifter and shift or push down on it then shift. They say they lubed it up, but cant seem to find the real problem. Its starting to **** me off.
Is your foot on the brake pedal when you try shifting-- my wife's windstar won't shift from park unless your pressing the brake. Never really checked my truck out though.
I have an '04 FX4 also, but I don't have the problem. But I do remember reading several posts about this several months ago. I think I remember something about a TSB, but I am not sure. Sorry I can't be more specific about the posts. I would definetly try searching.
Finally fixed. I took her in the shop the other day and the service advisor said that a spring the the shifter was not sitting right. They replaced it and I havent had any problems since.
I don't have quite your problem, however when I stop and put the truck in "Park" it doesn't seem to fully engage into "P" and therefore my key won't come out of the ignition. I've had to turn my truck off/on many times to get it into "P" fully so that I can get my key out. Has done it since day 1 and I also have the FX4 with center console. Ford can't recreate, of course, and does nothing.
