Shifter Column issue?

Hi guys. I have a 2001 f-250 v10 triton automatic and my shifter column is very loose and sloppy. it's about time I fixed it because the more I drive it the worse it gets. It takes me about a minute to shift into park because I cant find the gear anymore. Can anymore help me out with this problem?

a schematics of the 2001 f-250 shifter column would be great too

thanks.

Two things to check:

1) Two Torx-headed screws under the column that connect the shift lever mechanism to the cable tend to loosen and even fall out.

2) The bushings in the shifter tube wear out and may require replacement.

yep, just had the same thing on my '99 and it was a matter of tightening the to screw under there. they heads face down.. get under there and move the shift lever and you'l see them right away.
