390 Horsepower rating

Does anyone know what the horsepower and torque ratings are on a '76 390 engine that was in a F150?

I believe my 73 is stock 185 hp. There is a lot more available though. The car 390's of the 60's were well over 300 hp. I just rebuilt mine and did a lot of performance work...it's made a HUGE difference. Check out the FE forum for more information....the guys there are very knowledgeable.

Here ya go...sorry for the delay.

To answer your specific question, the '76 390 shows 5 different versions for that year. I'll list the 2bbl ones too for future reference:

All were 8.2:1 compression. First value is HP, second is torque.

390 Code H non-California 2 bbl 156@3400 292@2000
390 Code H California 2bbl 147@3200 288@2000
390 Code M non-California 4bbl 195@4000 312@2400
390 Code M noise-legislated area 4bbl 190@4000 292@2600
390 Code M California noise-legislated area 4bbl 183@3800 300@2400

Oh ya...!!! That is why I LOVE my FE!!! Plus, make a few mods (intake, carb, cam, etc.)...and now you really have that POWER and TORQUE.

Just a Head's up !

It's well known that engine related questions are usually best asked in the related engine forums.
