Need Speedometer Question answered....
Recently I posted a question about the cause of my speedometer not working on my '99 E-450 Van chassis w/ V-10. I am still unclear about the possible causes of this problem. Most have pointed to the rear diff. sensor as the cause. I called a local Ford Truck Dealer and asked about the switch and was told that the differential switch is for the ABS brakes, further, he said the sensor that sends the info to the dash is the one located on the left tail side of the transmission, this is the one that I was more familiar with since having a speedo problem with my old '89 Crown Vic which was corrected by changing that sensor on the trans. My question is this........... which sensor is responsible for the direct signal to the dash that records the analog dial to read speed? Here are the facts concerning my vehicle:
The speedometer does NOT register...BUT..the trip odo and total mileage odometer both work. The Cruise Control works.........there is NO ABS warning lite that is on. Could a bad sensor register odometer reading but NOT show SPEED recording? Is this a sensor problem or is it a problem in the actual dash unit? Someone out there must have experienced the same problem and hopefully someone will chime in with a remedy for this. Your input is very much appreciated. I still love the old fashioned speedometer cable and gears....some things are better left unchanged...........thanks..
