How's it going you all? I have another kingpin question for you's. I am gettig ready to put my truck in the garage, to get the king pins fixed but I just wanted to ask is there much difference in having the bushing reamed or honed? The reasoned I ask is because one garage reams them and the other one hones them. The one who reams them is about $120. cheaper than the other one. Is it worth getting them honed for $120 more or is reamming fine? You guys are the best Thanks alot for anybodies help. Mark
Reaming has been standard practice for years. I have personally never heard of honing them. I would think that would imbed little abrasive particles in the bearing material and ruin it.
Any other ideas guys?

I wouldn't want anything with an abrasive anywhere near my bushings. I wouldn't think burnishing with hardened rollers would remove enough metal to work.

Hone will be a more custom fit, but little gain out of a good ream. Either practice will contibute to contamination. I'd hope either way they're cleaned thoroughly. I always go over and clean any work a second time before assembly. Bottom line is that the shop doing the work should pay particular attention to the tolerancing of the fit between the pin and the installed bushings...stick with the ream - use the extra $$ for pivot bushings.
