Rotella 5W40 synthetic

Walmart sells it for about 18.00 a gallon and its time for an oil change, the marina near here sells Amsoil (15W40) for 24.00 a gallon seems kind of steep, this is the first oil change since I got her and I doubt I'll put 6K on it before next fall anyone have any problems with the Rotella? I ran the regular type when I had equipment and never had any issues but that was with naturally aspirated cats and deeres.

I have been using the Rotella non-synthetic without any problems. That is what all the big diesel shops (Heavy equiptment and tractor trailer) use around here.

The 5w40 Rotella T synthetic works fine in PSD's.
Wallyworld has it for 13.49 gallon here.

Amsoil is great oil from what I can tell from the UOA's I have seen on it. But it is a little prices

Bridgeman
For about the same price you can get Premium Blue Extreme witch from what I can tell is a group 4 oil. But it is hard to find. http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...sp?product=113

I've been doing my own little rotella syn test in my 7.3L....

As most of the frequenters on this board know, I'm a avid user of Delo 400 CI+ (the CI+ has a superheavy dose of moly, which none of the other oils have...), I've also been a huge advocate against using a synthetic just for the sake of using it. Most will prolly be surprised to see that I'm even using a synthetic at the moment...

Does Rotella Syn start easier in the winter? It sure does!

Does it give better MPG? It sure hasn't in my truck, I still get the same mpg as I did with supposedly inferior conventional Delo.

Does Rotella make the motor run less noisy? My Db meter says it sounds the same....

MHO.

I've noticed ALOT more consumption on my low milage '00 7.3L (just turned 63K mi), up from 1 qt every 3,000 to 3.5qts.

I'll run the stuff in the winter, but when the temps rise, I'll run 15w40 Delo from now own. With piles and piles of 5K + UOA's on conventional HDEO's out on the net, I cannot fathom why anyone would want to use a synthetic (and pay syn prices too!). I get my Delo 400 (6 gallon case) for ~$36 smackers at SAM's club

Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com, and FTE's own Oil and Lubrication Forum for more info and opinions.

I also noticed when I switched to Rotella synthetic my oil consumption jumped from 1qt to 3 qts. Needless to say I switched back to Mobil Delo and its back to 1 qt every 5000 miles. It had me worried for a while.

I've been running the Rotella T synthetic just as hard as I did my dino and no consumption between 5K changes.

A friend of mine has also run both and experienced no difference in oil consumption. I guess my truck is just picky.

i just changed over to amsoil 15w-40 with a Amsoil filter. it was $96 from a guy i know who retails amsoil from another forum. the price included 15 quarts, the filter, and shipping. i put 12 quarts in when i changed it, then ran it and needed to add 2 more quarts. mine holds 14 quarts, not 12 quarts. yes its more expensive, but the dealer said that it would be good for AT LEAST 3x the life of regular oil. if you changed at every 5,000- this would be good for at least 15,000 miles. and he said that if you do alot of highway driving and no offroading, it can go up to 25,000 miles no problem. justifies some of the initial price.
