Going to the Racetrack today.!

Well I'm heading up to National Trails today and need a few tips...I'm currently running a 2001 PSD 4x4 w/ 6637 intake, Full Gauges, unbolted the muffler, and a Diablo Predator. I also plan on disabling the wastegate actuator for some extra psi. I took off the tailgate too. Do you guys have any tips or anything for the track? This is my first time racing the truck. Hopefully I'll be able to make a full run with the 100hp setting without the egts skyrocketing over 1400. What temp should I shut her down and any tips to lowering egts?

I don't see a mention of size of exhaust. If your running 3 inch.......you could be seeing the 1200 - 1400 mark quicker than you think......so keep an eye glued to that pyro.
Let us know how you did.

A run that short I would not worry about the pyro. Lock it in 4 hi, boost up to around 15psi and let her rip. Keep that up and plan on a new trans. soon. Ask me how I know. You can get the EGT's lowered by installing a water/meth injection. Is you exhaust stock?

Yep, 4HI is for traction. If you boost up to 15 PSI and let off to launch you're not gonna go anywhere and you'll have a heck of a smoke cloud

yeah, hehe, i heasrd someone say put a piece of duct tape over the pyro so you can concentrate on other things while racing down the track at high rates of speed. last thing you need to do is be staring at a gauge....one little "whoops" and its allover. be care, have fun, and good luck!

Undoubtedly you have never tried it. You will take off like a bat out of hell. Although it is very tough on a truck's drive line.

if i have more than 5-6 pounds on the 6liter when i launch, and i aint in 4hi, it smokes em through 3rd gear.... its sad and looks like this

(i dont warrant this type of behavior, as it has ruined a perfectly good set of tires... but gratuitious burn out pics are cool)

That's why you put it in 4-hi. Trust me; you will not smoke them when it is locked in. I can annihilate the rear tires when I am not locked in, from just a smash of the go pedal without using the breaks. Of-coarse I have many mods on my truck.

Great pics of the burn-out

i dont have alot of mods, just exahust and a tuner on the 6liter, but i am betting it will run in the 14's. Its faster than my 96 7.3L with injectors and a chip.

Well I went tonight but we didn't try out the 4 wheel high or any tune over 60 hp tune. Those will be for later runs. I didn't try out the 100 hp tune because I wanted to wait until I get exhaust and a sonnax kit for the tranny. My best race was against some riced out civic running 17.5...Surprisingly, I had no trouble with egts..never went past 1200. But heres how I did with the 60 tune in 90* degree weather, PLUS I had no idea how to launch this thing. I held rpms at around 1300-1500 and then just left off the brake and floored it. Here's the slip:
R/T: .284
60': 2.461
330: 6.879
1/8: 10.628
MPH: 65.72
1000: 13.839
1/4: 16.573
MPH: 82.28

My 60' was pretty bad, what should I shoot for next time? It was a fun night though. I was surprised that the Cummins diesels aren't too fast after all. There was a dually there with sidepipes that I beat and a modded one with big 5" stacks that ran no better then 16.0. Do you guys think with a posi, exhaust, and 100 tune that I will be in the low 15's?

I've heard people talking about using the 4hi in 1/4 miles before, but doesn't the manual say something about not going over 55 mph in it?
