Gas Edgers

My electric Back & Decker edger finally gave up the ghost. Any recommenditions on a small gas powered edger? I don't have a lot to edge, just don't want to drag out the cord anymore.

I have a small 2 cycle Weed Eater edger. It's OK for small jobs. It will create a clean line along the driveway or side walk, but it doesn't cut a very wide edge nor can you tilt the blade to create a cut-in. I have about 250-300 feet of edging and I think it's too small really. It can get bogged down by thick grass that's grown over the pavement. When it dies I'll get a bigger one. But if you have less than 100' and edge frequently so theres not much turf to cut, it's not bad for the money.

BTW, are you talking about an edger or string trimmer? Cause I was talking about an edger.

Heya Mike, long time, no hear. Hope all is well. I killed my Craftsman electric edger in a few short months with my almost half acrea lot. I've got a bent shaft green case gas edger. I can't remember the name. But you will love not having to drag an extension cord all over the place!!! I would recommend a long straight shaft so you won't have to stoop over as much. At 6ft 1in this bent shaft edger is a little tiresome after a couple hours. I just can't bring myself to buy a new one until this thing dies. And I just can't kill it. I bought it used, tune it up every year and it's lasted 6 years in my hands so far. Oh ya, don't by the cheapy throwaway ones at Reasors or BigLots. You might want to check out the Sears Outlet store right off of HWY169 sometime. They've got some good deals.

Our gas lawn edgers are all PowerTrim with a Honda engine. They just run and run and run and run.....

Yes, I was talking about edgers. i only need to edge 40 feet of drive way and maybe 150 feet of sidewalk and curb. I have a straight shaft Weed Eater string trimmer. That one is going strong after 5 or 6 years now. Starts right up every year. I was thinking about the Weed Eater edger, just because it would use the same gas/oil mixture as the string trimmer. The local Walmart has 1 in stock, but the box has been opened, so I'm leary of buying that one. i'm also thinking of a Toro with the detachable heads. But. I don't want to be tied to 1 motor. If it gave out, then I'd be without anything.
thanks for the replys.

Id go buy one from Sears. Anything with a Honda engine on it is overrated and overpriced.
