something is shorted out and causeing ecessive current through the coil. You will have to find where the short is. Check all nearby wires, and look for frayed wires and damaged connectors. Have a good ohm meter, and check the resistance between various points and ground. You will need a good wireing diagram. I recommend the Chiltons for this one.
we got this van used 6 mo ago. it was running on the wrong ign module(was for another car) do you know what damage that may have done. suspect this could be cause of slow developing problem. wires seem ok will start checking for shorts. any special areas in consideration of wrong module. have good meter, any info appreciated.

Sprayed For Vacuum Leaks,etc,etc, Maybe A Fuel Injector Or Two Is Going Bad, Could This Short Back Into Dist And Ig Module? 146,000 Miles E350 Ford, No Codes In Computer Seems Connected To Those Cylinders? Is This Possible? New Coil Ok But Ig Control Module Went Again
The igntion modules are all the same regardless of vehicle. The big differences are in year, some were on the dizzy (pre 92), others on the fender or firewall (post 92). It sounds like a bad ground... Or a short on the PIP sensor wireing going into the distributor.
thanks for all the replys. took to diagnostic. it said ign is all running perfect. but one cylinder is dropping out and bubbles in radiator. could a cracked head or blown gasket be in any way related to the 3 weeks of crazy ign problems? did not overheat during this time.. compression test was not significant but bubbles come out every time it misses.
