I replaced a coil today on the number 4 cylinder because somehow the screw came out and the coil was just sitting there. I put the new coil and plug in and all was fine untill more misfiring. Pulled new coil out and the rubber boot was melted off. Replaed with a spare I keep at my house with my plow stuff everything ran fine, drove around a bit and now the same thing. I am not bothering with it tonight. Replaced first one on side of the road, not fun. Any idea what could be causing this? Exposed wires going to harness maybe? Thanks in advance.
I used two different coils after I took the factory one out. The first new coil sucked, i think it was bad from the factory. I started my truck and it still was running on 7 cylinders. I limped home to put it a coil that was in my truck and was still good when I replaced a couple coils 2 winters ago. I saved this one for when I am plowing. It might be a a coincindence that it just happened to be bad. I drove with the second one on for a while and last night it acted up and threw the code. I returned the new coil the was faulty and exchanged it. I am bringing it to a family friend who is a mechanic to look at it tomorrow. I am getting ready to unload this truck for a new one and of course all these problems are going on. Just replaced tranny now all this small BS. Could to legth of the spark plug have anythign to do with it? I am racking my brain about what it could be.
New coil and plug went in. Ran fine for two days. I dont know why the rubber on the coils melted though. Now I have a code for an output speed sensor. I dont even know where that is, or what it does. I looked in the Haynes manual and the closet thing I could find is the vehicle speed sensor. Is this the same thing?
